My current position consists of reviewing and issuing permits as well as inspecting private construction projects concerning utilities, grading, and driveway improvements within the city and borough of Juneau. This work requires knowledge of CBJ Standards and the ability to maintain inspection reports, database entries, as built records, and perform extensive property research. Additional responsibilities include working with the Chief Regulatory Engineer in reviewing plats and as builts, writing and drafting in AutoCAD property and maintenance agreements including easements. I have also had the opportunity to be a project manager, which required the ability to track and asses in actuality as well as monetarily the construction work being performed.

This position involved AutoCAD drafting as well as overseeing all drafting operations, which included organizing project files, drawing file backups and archiving, and maintaining the company’s drafting standards. The majority of the drafting done was for civil engineering designs as well as survey projects ranging from topography surveys to as builts. In addition to my AutoCAD position, I manage and maintain the computer and network capabilities within the office as well as the field offices.

This position required me to create, correct, update, and automate maps showing land status and surveys within Alaska using AutoCAD and GTX programs. This was often done by using surveyor notes, published maps, and past information concerning the parcel or township. The knowledge of land law, land ownership, and land status was crucial to the development of the plats. Several situations called for in depth research to find past and present ownership and status as well as resolving and anticipating conflicts.

This position entailed the creation of geology, site, location, and prospect maps using ArcView as well as ArcInfo. Maps were included in BLM publications, used in the field, and distributed to the public at request. Graphics work was done for BLM displays, handouts, and pamphlets using Adobe Illustrator and Paint Shop Pro. Data entry of prospects and field notes were done using Excel and Access. Editing of reports was done using Word, Word Perfect, and Report Writer. I was also a field assistant, which included stream, rock, and soil sampling. As a field assistant I was trained for helicopter, small plane, gun, outdoor survival, and first aid use. Other skills utilized in the field were Global Positioning System (GPS) units, soil augers, and hand held radios.
